The Open Affinity Group (OAG)
Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, artificial intelligence (AI) and its use in education and examinations have been high on the agenda of many university lecturers. Language-generating AI tools in particular are already delivering impressive results, helping structure term papers, create bibliographies, paraphrase and translate research literature, and answer academic questions. The ability to receive exam results on a silver platter with a click of the mouse requires universities to rethink existing exam formats and, more fundamentally, academic writing and the associated best practices. At JLU, an Open Affinity Group on the use of AI-supported tools in a university context has therefore been formed to engage intensively with teachers and students.

The Open Affinity Group on the use of AI-supported tools in a university context has the following objectives at JLU:
- Connect individual actors interested in the topic.
- Provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on the productive implementation of AI-supported tools in individual research and teaching contexts.
- Provide a platform to pool information exchange.
- Initiate a discourse on educational policy with participants.
- Develop and implement demand-oriented information and exchange formats on the topic (e.g., workshops).
This wiki (German only) contains a comprehensive collection of information, experiences, and results that have been gathered through collaboration between group members in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. Our goal is to share knowledge and best practices in order to continuously improve the implementation and use of AI at Justus Liebig University Giessen and to drive innovation in this area.
