Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies

Professor Dr. Wencke Gwozdz has been a member of the JLU Executive Board since November 22, 2024. She is responsible for research and the promotion of young scientists.

Since April 2018, Professor Gwozdz has held the Chair of Consumer Research at JLU. From 2021 until November 2024, she also served as Vice Dean of Faculty 09 – Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management.

Born in 1978, Wencke Gwozdz studied Socioeconomics at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, where she earned her doctorate in economics in 2009. She subsequently spent nearly a decade as a postdoctoral researcher and later as an Assistant Professor at the Copenhagen Business School in Frederiksberg, Denmark. She also conducted several research stays at the University of Western Australia Business School in Perth, where she has been an Honorary Research Fellow since 2015.

Professor Gwozdz has held numerous academic positions, including Associate Professor of Transformative Consumer Behaviour and Sustainability since 2013, Professor of Sustainable Consumption since 2018, and Visiting Professor at the Copenhagen Business School since 2023. She is actively involved in editorial boards of several academic journals and serves on various committees, including the Board of Trustees for the Dr. Rainer Wild Foundation and the Coordination Board of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection.

Her research focuses on sustainable consumption, health behaviour and consumer policy, with a particular emphasis on nutrition. Through her extensive experience in European collaborative research projects, she has developed a robust interdisciplinary network.
