Awards from the Senate

According to the statute Awards from Justus Liebig University Giessen (as of May 30, 2018), three university-wide awards can be bestowed on people who have rendered outstanding or special services to Justus Liebig University. The following excerpts from this statute explain the significance of the awards and frame the conditions for conferral:

*§ 2 Awards

(1) For special services to the university, the senate of JLU Giessen will award the following:

1. Honorary Senator of Justus Liebig University Giessen

2. Justus Liebig Medallion

3. Liebig Commemorative Coin

(2) The award of Honorary Senator can be conferred in particular on individuals who, through their life's work, have rendered outstanding, exceptional service to the university as a whole.

(3) The Justus Liebig Medallion can be awarded to individuals at partner institutions of JLU Giessen abroad who have rendered outstanding services to the internationalization efforts of the university. It can also be awarded for special services that successfully internationalize individual disciplines if these services are significant to the entire university.

(4) The Liebig Commemorative Coin can be awarded to people who have contributed to the success of the university or individual disciplines to a special degree.
