The degree programme aims to do the following:

  • transmit the theoretical fundaments for the teaching of foreign languages in all areas of post-school adult and vocational education;
  • transmit the theoretical fundaments in the area of development of materials and software for foreign language education and further training;
  • and teach the foreign languages as work languages for both current and future professional purposes.

From the start of the BA programme, the aim is to integrate the acquisition of in-depth knowledge of the linguistics, the cultures and the literatures of at least two foreign languages, in addition to methods of teaching them, as well as a high degree of competence in the target languages. In this process, the necessary linguistic ability and knowledge of the subject to be taught is systematically linked to the acquisition of skills in and knowledge of foreign-language teaching. In this way, the principle of multi-linguality is reflected in the structure of the programme, and it is guaranteed that the foreign-language teaching skills are always linked to relevant areas of linguistic competence and literary and cultural knowledge. The BA programme contains an obligatory period of work experience teaching foreign languages and an obligatory period of time spent abroad. Since the BA dissertation must be on the subject of teaching foreign languages, the principle of theoretically informed practice is of central importance.
