During the so-called "corona semester", the courses were held almost exclusively virtually. With the return to face-to-face teaching, not everything will be the same as before: some courses offer participants the opportunity to either be present on site or to connect online. Such a course falls under the concept of hybrid teaching - a concept that, according to Gabi Reinmann, is based on the simultaneity of face-to-face and online teaching (see Reimann, 2021).

Tutorials at JLU will also be able to take place in the hybrid teaching format. This workshop aims to prepare our tutors for the teaching of the future and to familiarise them with the technical and didactical challenges that hybrid teaching entails. In the first part, we will discuss together the different potentials of this teaching format as well as practical strategies that are helpful in implementing traditional teaching methods in this new format. In the second part, we will "go to work", i.e. tutors will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned by directly testing the equipment and technology.

Intended learning goals

  • Know the term hybrid teaching and its basics;
  • Recognise the potentials of using synchronous hybrid teaching for one's own tutorial;
  • Be familiar with difficulties that hybrid teaching entails;
  • Know the necessary requirements for software and hardware and observe them in one's own teaching practice;
  • Be able to competently apply strategies that are helpful for effective teaching in the synchronous hybrid format;
  • Be confident as a junior teacher in hybrid formats.
