The Institute of Genetics comprises of two departments headed by Prof. Sandra B. Hake and Prof. Reinhard Dammann. Besides their scientific work, they are responsible for training and education of biology students (Bachelor, Master, L2 and L3).
In the main research focus of both departments are processes that modify chromatin structure thereby regulating gene expression, DNA damage repair and genome stability. Furthermore, investigations on how mutations and/or transcriptional deregulation of protein complexes responsible for these processes contribute to diseases, most prominently tumor development, are at the center stage of their scientific endeavors.
