Genetics

The Institute of Genetics comprises of three sections headed by Prof. Sandra B. Hake, Prof. Reinhard Dammann and Prof. Sigurd Braun. Besides their scientific work, they are responsible for training and education of biology students (Bachelor, Master, L2 and L3).

In the main research focus of both sections are processes that modify chromatin structure thereby regulating gene expression, DNA damage repair and genome stability. Furthermore, investigations on how mutations and/or transcriptional deregulation of protein complexes responsible for these processes contribute to diseases, most prominently tumor development, are at the center stage of their scientific endeavors.
