Two new projects

Two new research projects habe started in the Gatti group:

The DFG-founded project "Funktionelle Nano-Hybride für die Optoelektronik: von 0/1/2D Nanostrukturen bis zu Cross-Linked Heteronanoübergänge" ("Functional nano-hybrids for optoelectronics: from 0/1/2D nanostructures to cross-linked heteronano-transitions"; https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/46060916) as well as that of the HMWK-Program "Horizon Hessen" funded project "NANOHYLUM" (https://www.hessen.de/presse/pressemitteilung/von-hessen-nach-europa-hessen-horizon-ist-gestartet).

New project

The H2020 FET-PROACTIVE project "MULTI-ELECTRON PROCESSES FOR LIGHT DRIVEN ELECTRODES AND ELECTROLYTES IN CONVERSION AND STORAGE OF SOLAR ENERGY (LIGHT-CAP)" financed by the European Commission has started on 1st January 2021 and will last until 31st December 2024. Dr. Gatti's and Prof. Smarsly's group will contribute to the LIGHT-CAP consortium as a single research unit in charge of the realization of porous light harvesting and/or charge accumulating thin film architectures based on zero- and bi-dimensional semiconducting materials. The project is coordinated by Dr. Ilka Kriegel at the Italian Institute of Technology and include as other cooperation partners TU Dresden (Prof. X. Feng), EPFL (Prof. F. Stellacci), TU Milan (Prof. F. Scotognella), IMDEA-Energy (Dr. R. Marcilla) and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (Dr. A. Narita).

Welcome to the website of Gatti Research Group

In our group, the production and physico-chemical characterization of functional composite materials targeting different optoelectronic applications is investigated. While the research activity focuses on materials preparation and is therefore based on a general chemistry/materials science knowledge, a highly interdisciplinary vision is required to tackle with the materials functional requirements. Compositional engineering is adapted depending on the specific goal. Polymers, both standard and semiconducting ones, are generally chosen as the host-matrix for their ease of processing in the form of thin-films and/or electrospun nanofibers. Their native properties are enriched through blending with carbon nanomaterials and/or inorganic/hybrid nanoparticles. Covalent or non-covalent functionalization of the fillers is envisaged from time to time, when either scarce compatibility with the matrix is found or defects healing is required. Tests of the produced materials in real devices are carried out relying on external collaborations.
