Das Freilichtspielhaus präsentiert: DER WAGEN Ein Theater-Roadmovie durch Deutschland

The FREILICHTSPIELHAUS is coming! The mobile cinema bus, a vintage fire truck with a screen on the roof and its own cinema store, brings great cinema to every village, and the villages to the big screen.

It will be shown: THE WAGON. A theater road movie through Germany.
In the summer of 2019, a theater troupe begins an unusual tour of Germany: it travels on 100-year-old hay wagons once across the Republic - from the Rhine-Hessian village of Dautenheim to Berlin. Every evening the troupe plays THE GREAT THEATRE OF THE WOLD by Calderón in a different village, every day they move 40 km further.
DER WAGEN is a document of this utopian journey of wandering theater: a film about the power of the stage, which offers an unusual view of Germany, from the countryside to the city, from West to East, through the centuries.

After the film, there will be time at the cinema store to talk about art, local structures, early modern times, and Germany today in a home setting. The FREILICHTSPIELHAUS brings together artists and local actors, and who knows, maybe the allegorical figures from Calderón's play - the rich, the poor, the beauty, the farmer - will meet again here.
