Fields of interest / focus of work

The focus of my PhD project is the comparative foraging ecology of small terrestrial cavity-nesting birds in different habitats and the impact of their diet on physiological parameters of body condition.

I carry on a research project with nesting boxes of this research group in Giessen, which was initiated in 2013. For the project, more than 300 nest boxes were attached in three different habitats including forest, orchard and urban habitat. My investigation concerns the availability of food resources and the diet of cavity-nesting birds using arthropod barcoding and stable isotope analysis among other techniques. I want to find out if the diet in different habitats influences physiological parameters like growth, the immune system or the colouration of the plumage. Moreover my work includes regular controls of the nest boxes and, e.g., the monitoring of breeding, fledging and chick rearing activities in the nest boxes.
