Benefits & Obstacles

With the introduction of e-learning in the context of the Internet, a profound transformation of the teaching-learning culture is set in motion. This is particularly favoured by the comprehensive new methods of learning across institutional boundaries.

This page is constantly growing with the project and is regularly filled with new content.

Which benefits can be expected?

  • The results of the work of all participants can be discussed centrally in appropriate learning formats, either individually or cooperatively, in order to stimulate further learning steps through suggestions or criticism.
  • Teaching management systems like ILIAS or Stud.IP make course administration much easier.
  • E-learning formats enable teachers to reuse existing materials, or, after adjustments in connection with evaluation results, entire courses.

Which obstacles are to be expected?

  • Compared to conventional face-to-face events, the additional time required for the initial conception is considerably higher.
  • Depending on the design of digitally supported teaching scenarios, the risk exists that the dominance of teachers will be further strengthened and that students will become mere recipients of learning content. This can occur, for example, in the case of digital transmissions of courses, insofar as no channels are offered or used for questions.

Accessibility in higher education teaching

Accessibility means that every person can participate in everyday life in a self-determined way and without outside help. In order to do justice to the task of barrier-free teaching, lecturers should, when designing their courses, consider the individual impairments of students as much as possible and take their special needs into account.
