4 Semesters - 120 Credit Points
Composition of the Study Programme
The Master’s degree programme is structured as follows:
- the compulsory module ‘Academic Presentation’ (3 CP),
- a specialisation module (12 CP),
- a compulsory elective area I, the ‘core area’, which is designed to impart core competences (45–69 CP), and
- a compulsory elective area II, the ‘area of specialisation’, (6–30 CPD) as well as
- the Master’s thesis (30 CPD).

In Compulsory Electives II, you can choose from a range of subjects, thereby either expanding your subject-specific skills or acquiring complementary non-subject-specific skills. Students may enrol on courses in physics, data science, computer science, mathematics or materials science. Further modules are available on request. Modules worth up to 6 CP may be chosen in the form of non-subject-specific skills (AfK modules).
The final Master’s dissertation (‘Thesis’) in the fourth semester leads to the second professionally qualifying degree, the Master of Science.
