Requirements
Entrance requirements
A valid university entrance qualification (German: HZB) is required for admission to the program.
- For teacher training programmes leading to the First State Examination qualification, the Allgemeine Hochschulreife ("Abitur"; certificate of general qualification for university entrance) or a qualification recognised as equivalent is required.
- At the University of Giessen, the Fachhochschulreife (university of applied science entrance qualification) does not qualify holders to enrol on teacher training programmes.

Subject-specific prerequisites
Several subjects of the various teaching degree programmes require subject-specific prerequisites.
- For the subjects of Music (both short and long courses) and Art (long course only), aptitude tests must be passed before enrolment.
- For the subject of Physical Education (as either a short or long subject), proof of a certificate of fitness for sport (PDF) must be provided before enrolment.
- For the subjects of English and French, proof of a certain level of language proficiency must be provided prior to enrolment. The required language proficiency and supporting documentation are set out in Annex 1 – Entry Requirements to the Justus Liebig University’s Study and Examination Regulations of 23 August 2006 for the teacher training programme for primary schools.
