Teaching Degree Programmes

JLU offers teacher training programmes for all school types. In Hesse, these programmes conclude with the First State Examination. This is followed by a practical training phase, which concludes with the Second State Examination.

Lehramt an Grundschulen / Teaching Qualification for Primary Education 

The Teaching Qualification for Primary Education (L1) is the university-based (first) stage of teacher training and concludes with the First State Examination. The degree programme prepares students for teaching in primary schools.

Lehramt an Haupt- und Realschulen / Teaching Qualification for Lower–Secondary Education

The Teaching Qualification for Lower–Secondary Education (L2) is the university-based (first) stage of teacher training and concludes with the First State Examination. The degree programme prepares students for teaching years 5–10 at Hauptschulen, Realschulen and Gesamtschulen.

Lehramt an Gymnasien / Teaching Qualification for Grammar Schools 

The Teaching Qualification for Grammar Schools (L3) is the university-based (first) stage of teacher training and concludes with the First State Examination. The degree programme prepares students for teaching years 5–13 at grammar schools.

Lehramt für Förderpädagogik / Special-Needs Education

The Special-Needs Education (L5) is the university-based (first) stage of teacher training and concludes with the First State Examination. The degree programme prepares students for teaching at special-needs schools or in advisory and support centres.

Lehramt an beruflichen Schulen / Vocational Education and Training 

JLU offers a programme in Vocational Education and Training, leading to Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education, which can, amongst other things, lead to a career as a teacher at vocational schools.
