Overview
The Master's course "Applied Musicology" is a consecutive study programme, which is based on a completed Bachelor's degree in Musicology. Further information about the admission can be found under "Application"
The Master's course is oriented towards applicability and close to practice. It trains learners for professional work in the areas of empirical music research, popular music and media or presentation of music and, to this end, goes deeply into the necessary knowledge of the subject, skills and methods:
- In the specialisation field „Empirical Music Research“ students should acquire the necessary theoretical and methodological tools, which qualify them, for example, to advise companies in the targeted use and the financing and marketing of music and to conduct empirical research projects for business and education institutions.
- In the specialisation field "Popular Music and Media" various dimensions of the medial presentation of popular music, from the old “new media” to the Internet, are the main focus. The students must develop insights into the institutions and structures of communication in the production and reproduction involved and the legal and economic aspects of music in the context of the media.
- In the specialisation field "Music Education" the students gain an insight into institutions and professional areas of music education, and look at the specific, didactic approach to elements of musical education practice (e.g. concert education, composition education, special-needs education work with music).
