Taught in German

Overview

Overview

Overview

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) programme in "Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy" is a modular programme at JLUL's Faculty 06 (Psychology and Sport Sciences). It is consecutive to a polyvalent bachelor's degree programme in psychology. With the Master's degree, graduates fulfill the prerequisites for the state examination and can apply for admission to the State Examination Office. With the state examination, the license to practice medicine is obtained. The state examination takes place (as before) independently of the universities.

The contents of the study programme correspond to the contents of the Approbation Regulations, so that the Master's programme conveys not only in-depth methodological and scientific knowledge, but also theoretical knowledge and, in particular, psychotherapeutic and professional practice skills, with due regard for patient safety and patient rights.

The programme prepares students for independent work in selected professional fields with a clinical-psychological and psychotherapeutic focus, especially in health and social services, but also in the scientific field.

Target group

In addition to previous knowledge of the natural sciences and an interest in a course of study with a high practical component, students should also be proficient in English.

Composition of the study programme

In total, 120 CP are acquired in the M.Sc. "Psychology: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy", which is designed for 4 semesters. Of these, 105 CP are acquired in the programme's own teaching unit and 15 CP are acquired in the context of the professional activity III in (partially) stationary cooperation institutions. The curriculum imparts all contents and competences provided for according to the PsychThApprO and consists of 10 compulsory modules. Within those compulsory modules, there are options for parallel courses with different weighting of content.

The curriculum includes 3 core modules, 1 basic module, 3 application modules, 2 practice modules and 1 thesis module:

Core Module: Research Methods in Psychology (9 CP)
Core Module: Psychological Diagnostics (10 CP)
Core Module: Research-oriented internship (5 CP)
Basic Module: Biological aspects of mental illness (10 CP)
Application Module: Special Disorders and Behavioral Theory Parts 1 and 2 (6 CP; 6 CP)
Application Module: Applied psychotherapy (7 CP)
Practice module: Occupationally qualifying activity II and III (15 CP; 22 CP)
Thesis module (30 CP)

Most modules include a module-based examination, since the courses within the modules have different and often practice-related competence objectives, which must be specifically accredited for each respective module. During the research-oriented internship, students actively participate in research projects of the clinical-psychotherapy working groups and are thereby prepared for their final theses.
