GGS Research Conference

The Giessen Graduate Centre for Social Sciences, Business, Economics and Law (GGS) provides annual funding for an academic conference organised by its research sections or working groups. The GGS offers funding of up to €5,000 to support the organisation of the conference.

The GGS Research Conference has an open topic and offers doctoral candidates and postdocs in particular a forum for academic exchange, networking and visibility. Organising academic conferences is an important skill for early career researchers that can be acquired through 'on-the-job training'. Furthermore, independently organising a conference relevant to their field enables early career researchers to deepen their understanding of their own research topics, ongoing projects and areas of interest, whilst also expanding their professional network.

Doctoral candidates and postdocs who wish to plan a themed symposium, research conference or thematic congress within the framework of a GGS section or working group – or ideally two or more research sections or working groups – are expressly invited to submit their conference proposal for the organisation of the GGS Research Conference and to apply for corresponding funding.

·        raise the profile of the section work.

Funding Framework

The GGS provides up to €5,000 each year to support the organisation of the GGS Research Conference.

These funds can be used flexibly to organise the conference, in accordance with Justus Liebig University's applicable guidelines (e.g. to cover travel and accommodation costs for speakers, keynote speaker fees, catering costs, or organisational expenses). Co-funding through additional grants or cooperation with institutions outside JLU is possible, provided the GGS remains the organiser.

One event per year is selected and funded as a GGS Research Conference.
