On behalf of the Chair of Peace Studies and the seminar "Theory and practice of engendering peace and conflict", we cordially invite you to the guest lecture held by Prof. Dr. Narda Henriquez on the topic of:

“Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Gender and Human Rights in Peru: 20 years afterwards”

Description

Next year it will be the 20th anniversary of the Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission´s Report, presented to authorities in 2003 to disclose the mass violence committed over a twenty years internal armed conflict in the country.  The nine-volume report is only a small part of a huge and laborious work that includes many public audiences, testimonies and case studies which are at the archive of the Lugar de la Memoria (Place of memory). The Truth and Reconciliation Commission carried out public audiences with quechuaspeaking people from inner lands and from other native communities where political violence was devastating.  This presentation will focus on the political context and women´s experience along the conflict and afterwards from a gender perspective, as well as the way in which the Commission and the Report could include women´s human rights violations explicitly in its agenda and a brief chapter on gender issues along the armed conflict in the Report.
