Ich bin Biologe und beschäftige mich mit der Analyse großskaliger Citizen-Science-Daten mithilfe von Deep Learning und KI-basierten Methoden. Weitere Schwerpunkte meiner Forschung sind die Beteiligung der Öffentlichkeit durch Citizen Science, die Ökologie invasiver, neu auftretender und neonativer Arten sowie ökologische und evolutionäre Prozesse im Zusammenhang mit biologischen Invasionen. Ich verfüge über Erfahrung in Feldökologie, evolutionärer Genomik, datenbasierter Modellierung und der Entwicklung von Bildungsmaterialien für den Biodiversitätsschutz.
Derzeit arbeite ich schwerpunktmäßig in drei Forschungsbereichen:
KI-basierte Analyse von Citizen-Science-Bildern: Ich nutze Deep Learning und weitere computergestützte Methoden, um große Mengen an Citizen-Science-Fotografien zu analysieren. Ein zentrales Ziel ist dabei die Erfassung der Pflanzenphänologie auf kontinentaler Ebene. Hierfür entwickle ich Workflows zur Verarbeitung heterogener Bilddaten und zur Extraktion ökologischer Informationen, die großräumige Vergleiche, Monitoring und Naturschutzplanung unterstützen.
Biologische Invasionen: Ich arbeite mit Datenbanken zu biologischen Invasionen, um übergeordnete Muster und Trends zu identifizieren und dadurch Artenverschiebungen und die damit verbundenen Herausforderungen für den Naturschutz besser einzuordnen. Darüber hinaus arbeite ich an Projekten zu beginnenden Invasionen und neonativen Arten. Dabei untersuche ich insbesondere Umweltfaktoren und anthropogene Einflüsse, die diese Prozesse bestimmen, sowie die Bedingungen, die die Ausbreitung dieser Arten und deren Management beeinflussen.
Citizen Science und Öffentlichkeitsbeteiligung: Mich interessiert, wie Menschen Biodiversität wahrnehmen und wie sie sich im Rahmen von Citizen-Science-Initiativen an ihrer Erforschung beteiligen. Dazu gehören die Entwicklung von Bildungsmaterialien, Outreach-Strategien und Kommunikationsinstrumenten sowie die methodischen Herausforderungen bei der Integration großer und heterogener Citizen-Science-Datensätze in die ökologische Forschung und den Naturschutz.
