Description

The technology module “small animal models” is providing animal research advice to the scientists in planning, applying for and carrying out animal experiments, writing applications for animal experiments and coordinating the breeding of genetically modified mouse lines as well as assistance in establishing new animal models. This is done on the background of the 3R principle to avoid animal experiments altogether (Replacement), to limit the number of animals (Reduction) and their suffering (Refinement) in tests to an absolute minimum.

The platform is managed by Dr. med. vet. Ingrid Henneke, a veterinary specialist in laboratory animal science.

Services

The authorisation of animal experiments is preceded by an enormous amount of bureaucracy. The "small animal models" platform can help with the planning and drafting of applications as well as communication with the authorities thanks to many years of experience with the animal experiment application process.

The management of the platform has gained experience with many different experimental rodent models for lung diseases in the past years. This expertise enables them to provide advice and support in the planning and conducting of animal experiments. The 3R aspect is always taken into careful consideration when planning the experimental projects.

The ordering and breeding of genetically modified mouse lines can involve a considerable amount of paperwork. The Platform can provide support and advice in this regard. In addition, mouse lines that are considered burdened may not be bred without authorisation. The small animal models platform can assist in the preparation of an application for the breeding of burdened lines.
