Dr. Janne Bredehöft

Position Animal Welfare Officer Institution JLU Giessen Dr. Janne Bredehöft is a veterinarian specialized in physiology and laboratory animal science. After studying veterinary medicine she received her licenses to practice in 2013. Afterwards, she joined the Institute of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry, JLU Giessen for her dissertation. For her outstanding performance she was awarded with JLU doctoral award for the best dissertation of the academic year 2016/2017 within the section of veterinary medicine, animal biology, medicine, dentistry and human biology. She started to work as a veterinarian at the central laboratory animal facility at JLU Giessen (ZVTH) in 2016 before being the head of the laboratory animal facility on the Riedberg campus of the Goethe University in Frankfurt. Currently, she is an animal welfare officer at the JLU Giessen and for companies in the private sector. It is in her responsibility to advise scientists on the planning and implementation of animal experimental research projects and that laboratory animals are treated in accordance with animal welfare law. She is a member of the animal welfare committee of the JLU Giessen, of the animal welfare commission of the federal state of Hessen in Darmstadt as well as the society for laboratory animal science (GV-SOLAS) and the veterinary association for animal protection. |

Position HR Marketing Expert Institution Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) Dr. Michael Deimel studied physical chemistry at the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg and completed his doctoral degree there in the year 2000. He worked for several years as technical consultant for vocational training of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association before he joined the ABB AG in 2008. At the ABB AG he worked as HR marketing expert and employer branding specialist as well as HR specialist for training marketing at the ABB training center. Here he was responsible, among other things, for public relations, training marketing and the organization of events such as the Girls Day. In 2024 he transitioned to the Deutsche Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) in Heidelberg and he will share his experience in working as a HR marketing expert for this renowned scientific institution. |

Position Associate Consultant Institution Veeva Systems Henri Hofmann holds a Master's degree in Bioinformatics (2024) and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Justus Liebig University Giessen. As an Associate Consultant at Veeva Systems, he specializes in software solutions for the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on Document Management (Quality Docs), Quality Management Systems (QMS), and Vault Training. He is dedicated to optimizing digital workflows and supporting clients in implementing efficient document and quality management solutions. |
Dr. Dörthe Kesper

Position Coordinator for Alumni and Industry Cooperation Institution GGL Dr. Dörthe Kesper studied biology at Philipps University Marburg, where she earned her doctoral degree in the group led by Renate Renkawitz-Pohl. Her research focused on developmental biology, particularly exploring the role of the rols gene in myoblast fusion in Drosophila melanogaster. Since 2006, she has held postdoctoral positions at Lund University, the University of Duisburg-Essen, and the Philipps-University Marburg. In 2015, she transitioned to industry, working as a Regulatory and Site Services Specialist at Covance and later as a Packaging and Labelling Specialist for clinical studies at CSL Behring. Despite her industry roles, she maintained a strong interest in teaching; since 2019, she worked as a freelance tutor for the distance learning program "Molecular Biology" at SpringerNature. In 2025, she joined the GGL as a Coordinator for Alumni and Industry Cooperation, bringing her combined experience from academia and industry to the position. In her talk she will give a brief insight into the current job market for life scientists. |
Anjani Nayak

Position Project Coordinator Pesticide reduction Institution Regional Council of Giessen Anjani Nayak holds a master’s degree in crop protection and nutrition from the University of Hohenheim, Germany. She pursued the second year of her master’s program at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands, where she specialized in the use of insects as food and feed. She relocated to Giessen to participate in the 'Hessen Ideen Stipendium' incubator program. Autumn of 2020 she started her PhD in Justus Liebig University in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME, Giessen. Her research focused on optimizing black soldier fly larvae production on agricultural side-streams. Currently she serves as the project coordinator for the Pesticide reduction plan in Hessen at the plant protection services, Regional Council of Giessen. |

Position PCMO Coordinators at GGL Postdoc Programme Institution GGL Dr. Sabine Otto holds a biology degree from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, majoring in genetics, immunology, and zoology. She earned her doctoral degree in Molecular Genetics specializing in genomic analysis of Vitis sylvestris. From 2016 to 2023, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher and project Leader in insect biotechnology at JLU. Her contributions include developing environmentally friendly pest control systems for the invasive fruitfly Drosophila suzukii. Since September 2023, Sabine Otto has been one of our postdoc coordinators, guiding early-career researchers in interdisciplinary skill development. She will present the academic career path as a professional option and report on how the GGL Postdoc Program supports postdocs in Life Sciences at JLU.
Dr. Michael Streuber studied Biotechnology at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremerhaven. In 2016, he joined Prof. Jacob Odeberg's lab at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. He completed his master's thesis at TRON-Translational Oncology in Next-Generation Sequencing under Dr. Valesca Bukur in Mainz, Germany. In 2017, Michael began his PhD at TRON supervised by Prof. Dr. Ugur Sahin, developing new single cell sequencing technologies and bioinformatics tools. His work involved various projects with TRON and BioNTech, exploring RNA immunotherapies in cancer and autoimmune disease models. After earning his PhD in 2024, he became one of our postdoc coordinators in 2025, aiding postdocs in skill development. He will present the academic postdoc career path as a professional option and report on how the GGL Postdoc Program supports postdocs in Life Sciences at JLU. |
Dr. Bernhard Remes

Position Managing Director Institution Alcedis Dr. Berhard Remes studied Applied Biology/Biology at the University of Applied Science Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and at the JLU Giessen. After obtaining his Master degree in 2011 he joined the AG of Gabriele Klug at the JLU and received his doctorate in microbiology and molecular biology in 2015. After a short period as a postdoctoral fellow in the same group, he transitioned from academia into clinical research in 2016 and began working for Alcedis, a renowned Contract Research Organization (CRO) located in Gießen. Here he moved quickly through several positions and is now a Managing Director. He will give us insights into his work at Alcedis and the job opportunities you have in a CRO and in clinical research in general. |

Position Global Clinical Development Medical Adviser Institution Advanz Pharma GGL Alumnus Dr. Michael Seimetz studied biology with a focus on Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Kaiserslautern before he joined the Department of Internal Medicine of JLU Giessen for his doctoral degree on the Regulation of NADPH oxidases and NO synthases in a cigarette smoke-induced COPD mouse model. He worked as a Postdoc at the Excellence Cluster Cardio-Pulmonary Systems for several years and was awarded with several prices and grants during this time. In 2016 he transitioned from academia into the pharmaceutical industry and joined Laboratoires Reunis as Research Director before he progressed to Correvio/Advanz Pharma. Here he moved through several positions as Medical Science Liason Leader specialised in Infectiology and Endocrinology/Oncology before he became Global Clinical Development Medical Adviser for Advanz Pharma in 2024. |
Dr. Pratibha Singh-Rommel

Position Regulatory Affairs Manager, CMC Institution CSL Behring GGL Alumna Pratibha Singh-Rommel is one of the first GGL Alumnae. After earning a Master of Science in Biochemistry in India, she started her PhD in Neurology at JLU Giessen in 2006. Here she focussed on the function of autoantibodies in inflammatory muscle disease. After completing her PhD in 2010 she worked as Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Neurology at the JLU Giessen and at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research before starting her career in the pharmaceutical industry. She joined CSL Behring in 2014, working as stability manager and validation manager before she changed to her current position as Regulatory Affairs Manager, CMC where she is ensuring that all regulatory requirements regarding the quality and safety of CSL products are met continuously from developement to approval and further during life cycle. |
Dr. Simon Sommer

Position Process Expert Institution Biontech Dr. Simon Sommer studied chemistry at the JLU Giessen 2012-2017. After completing his master degree in 2017, he joined the group of Prof. Dr. Spengler for his dissertation. Here he worked on the structural investigation of lipids and proteins using mass spectrometry. At the same time, he was employed as a Development engineer for TransMIT GmbH and was engaged in the further development of the AP-SMALDI technology. Here, his work contributed to commercially available ion sources for molecular imaging. After finishing his doctorate in 2022 je quickly joined Biontech as a Process Expert. In this position he is responsible for the GMP compliant implementation of technologies and processes. |
