In the framework of the cooperation between the project Network for Impactful Digital Teaching Skills (NIDIT) and the Giessen Center for Eastern European Studies (GiZo) of the JLU, NIDIT Task # 2 (International Training Team) has designed the workshop series: "Basic Didactic Principles and Teaching Methods" for the participants of the DAAD project "Ukraine digital: Ukraine in its transcultural and transnational context" and other interested parties.
The workshop aims to support lecturers and teachers at Ukrainian universities to maintain, implement, and deliver their digital and international teaching. The series of workshops combine both a digital and didactical concepts and approches in teaching. The aim of this workshop series is twofold. On the one hand, it puts forward the discussion of new and innovative teaching methods and approaches. On the other hand, the workshop offers a general spectrum of last technologies and teaching tools that can be used in teaching and learning processes that ukraining teachers can use on either digital or face-to-face teaching environments. In general, this workshop seeks to broaden participants’ teaching skills to better prepare them to face potential challenges when teaching in different formats.

The format of the workshop is online.
Participants will receive a link to attend the workshops, once they register for it.
Workshop content
The workshop consists of six parts between October 5th and December 4th 2023 with a combination of teaching didactical principles and methods with digital components. Each session would last one academic hour, i.e. 45 minutes.

Didactic Principles I |
This session provides a theoretical emphasis where participants will become familiar with the conception of learning objectives, development of a teaching unit, and its main structure and phases. |

Didactic Principles II |
This session has a theoretical and practical emphasis. Participants will become familiar with concepts and approaches in teaching in higher education such as: the didactical teaching reduction, feedback, and assessment. They will also be introduced to some of the online tools currently used in teaching. This last part serves as a bridge to the next workshops. |
· Get familiar with didactical reduction to be concise in a teaching unit. · Know how to incorporate effective feedback and assessment that mirrors students’ performance. |

The complex approach of digitalization of the education process. How to keep the balance and save quality |
The advent of technology, the Covid pandemic, and, afterward, war have caused profound changes in higher education, making digitalization a vital aspect of today's academic environment. Now new challenges of returning to auditorium often present teachers with the difficult task of adapting and balancing the educational process while maintaining its integrity and quality, all advantages and experience. |

Using immersive Technologies |
This session provides an overview of immersive technologies and how they can be used in higher education. Before that, a quick follow-me-around will show the lab for innovative teaching in Giessen and its hardware. |

Gamification |
This session introduces gamification as a tool for learning and teaching. Its focus is to get acquainted with the basic principles of gamification and to understand the mechanisms that lead to its effectiveness. Furthermore, it aims on an understanding of what gamification is not and to know some pitfalls one might encounter when trying to gamify ones materials. |
