C12A7:2e- electride workshop: fabrication, characterization and application in space

The electride C12A7:2e- is a promising candidate as an insert material for hollow cathodes. These devices are used for example in electric thrusters, but also for other plasma applications. Its low work function allows lower operating temperatures and at the same time the material appears to be more resistant to propellant impurities and alternative propellants. Current research aims to improve material properties and develop cathode devices which make use of the material's advantages.

The workshop will focus on the manufacturing process (mono-/polycrystalline, doping), the characterisation of the material (thermal properties, determination of the electron density) and the application as an insert for hollow cathodes specifically for electric thrusters (design concepts, long-term tests). Presentations are held by scientists from Fraunhofer Institut IKTS Dresden, Advanced Thermal Devices and Airbus DS Friedrichshafen, among others. A joint lunch for all participants is planned beforehand. More details you will find in the attached program.
