What we do

What we do

The Eckhardt group focuses on understanding microstructure-property relationships in solid state systems. Using various modeling approaches, advanced statistical methods, and machine learning techniques, large datasets are generated or analyzed to unravel the relationships between material structure, (transport) processes, and functional properties. The goal is to develop data-driven approaches that accelerate both materials research and the development of innovative technologies. The interdisciplinary research combines theory and experiment in physics, chemistry, materials science, data science and applied computer science to create sustainable solutions for future-oriented applications.

We are looking for you!

We are looking for you!

We are a junior research group at the Center for Materials Research, operating at the interface between simulations and experiments. Our work focuses on data analysis in electrochemical and biological systems — and beyond. We are looking for motivated and ambitious students who enjoy working with data and simulations, and who are eager to learn new techniques and grow their skills.

Being part of a young, dynamic group comes with several unique advantages:

  • Close supervision and mentoring – hands-on support to help you quickly gain new lab and computational skills
  • Strong commitment to your success – we care deeply about your project and will support you to complete it efficiently
  • High level of independence – take real ownership of your research
  • Flexibility in project selection – tailor your work to your interests
  • Every member matters – in a small team, your contribution truly counts!

Whether you are looking for a project for your advanced lab course (Studienprojekt, Vertiefungsmodul, Spezialisierungsmodul, ...), bachelor's or master's thesis, or even a PhD — this is your chance to help shape a growing research group from the beginning. If you are interested, do not hesitate to reach out — we would love to discuss your ideas and possibilities in more detail.
