Live Session 3 – Workshop "Intercultural Awareness"

Intercultural awareness plays a key role in the tutors´ activity of international students. Openness to other cultures, ways of thinking and expression is determinant for a successful learning atmosphere, as it contributes to the motivation and learning performance of the participants. In this workshop, the focus lies on the development of the tutors´ intercultural skills by discussing strategies of intercultural communication and by reviewing practical tips on how to deal effectively with cultural diversity. The planned activities aim at helping tutors feel more confident when coping with cultural differences and situations of conflict in intercultural communication.   

Learning Goals

• Know the definition and the main guidelines of intercultural awareness;

• Recognise the importance of intercultural skills in tutorial courses designed for international students;

• Analyse and discuss different critical incidents within tutorial courses in which intercultural skills are required;

• Be able to act and react to cultural differences within tutorial courses.
