Anyone interested in the academic study of Protestant Theology is in good hands at the JLU Giessen: At the Institute for Protestant Theology, the third-largest institution of Faculty 04, teacher training courses as well as the Bachelor's and Master's degree programme in History and Cultural Studies can be completed with Protestant Theology as major or minor. The Giessen Theology combines its fascinating heritage of Lutheran and liberal-theological tradition to an open cultural-scientific profile.

The classical theological disciplines Old Testament and New Testament, Church History, Systematic Theology/Ethics and Practical Theology/Religious Education are represented in four chairs with qualification positions in research and teaching. Teaching is supplemented by a pedagogical assistant.

A cooperation of the Institute with the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the Goethe University Frankfurt/Main enables students of both universities to take courses of the other university and have them credited.
