Neues Schloss

...The 'central offices' of the Department of Geography are located in the most beautiful building in Giessen, the so called 'Neues Schloss' ('New Castle' in Senckenbergstr. 1).

Landgrave Philipp the ‘Magnanimous’ had the new castle constructed between 1533 and 1539. From 1650 onwards it served as the university chancellery as well as the local courthouse. The castle was restored between 1899 and 1907 and has housed the Department of Geography at Justus-Liebig University since 1965.

ground floor

The ground floor of the Neues Schloss building houses staff offices as well as seminar rooms NeS-S1 and NeS-S2. The Department's largest seminar room (NeS-S1) is used for courses as well as for all other events (e.g., conferences, receptions) and celebrations.
