Schistosome couple

During a constant pairing contact the longer, slim female lies in a kind a bulge pucker -the so called gynecophoral canal- of the flatter, wider male worm.

Egg deposition

The movie shows the final seconds of egg production within the ootype, which represents the egg-forming organ, and egg laying. The egg is released in the environment by constant constractions of the uterus (womb). Within the ootype the zygote (fertilized oocyte) is combined with many vitellocytes (yolk cells) for egg formation. A paired S. mansoni female is able to lay about 300 eggs per day.
