***This Master Class series is primarily (but not only) addressed to the new members of the GCSC. It consists of 3 parts.***
This second part of the MC series is meant
- to discuss a concept-based approach and to help the participants to find and define their own position in a broader research landscape of theories, methods and research questions in the study of culture at the GCSC, in Germany and in an international context.
This MC thus will basically consist of a discussion of the relevance of concepts and methodological / theoretical approaches for the individual dissertation projects. It encourages working with “travelling concepts” (Mieke Bal) and with research ideas in formation to enrich the scope of the Research Areas.
Basic Requirement for Preparation:
- Revisiting one’s own dissertation proposal with a special and systematic focus on explicit or implicit (key) concepts in the individual project (short inputs or presentations are possible).
- Why does working in Research Areas make sense?
- Text: Mieke Bal: From Cultural Studies to Cultural Analysis, in: Kritische Berichte 2 (2007): 33-44.
