Ionic liquid-mediated low-temperature formation of hexagonal titanium-oxyhydroxyfluoride particles

Bild des Monats Mai

Titania in general can crystallize in many different modifications. Beside the well-known modifications anatase, rutile and brookite there are other interesting derivatives, like the hexagonal tungsten bronze (HTB)-type Ti(OH)OF. This material has an interesting crystal structure with channels along the c axis within the material. These channels are large enough for the storage of lithium ions, so Ti(OH)OF could be an interesting material for future electrochemical applications. The used ionic liquid-based synthesis is carried out as a one-pot synthesis at a relatively low temperature (95°C). The methylimidazolium-based ionic liquids are used as both the reaction medium and fluorination source during the reaction.
