Indium is a component of amorphous Indium-Tin-Oxide, ITO. ITO is the best known representative of the class of transparent, conducting oxides which are employed as thin (invisible) films in displays or solar panels. The demand arising from corresponding mass-applications will exceed the earth’s resources of Indium, so scientists are desperately searching for substitutes to replace ITO.
