Title: Global Risks: Policies for Prevention, Management and Adaptation under Conditions of Uncertainty
Code: 0302
Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Helmut Breitmeier
Type of course: Seminar
Description: The seminar deals with transboundary economic, social, security or environmental problems (e.g., climate change, financial stability, health, digitalization, or inequality etc.). It explores, to what extent international organizations, nation-states and societies perceive such risks and how far (and under what conditions) they are able to develop effective policies for the longterm management of these risks. It also explores how far newly emerging phenomena such as populism, authoritarianism or nationalism have an impact on the willingness of states to tackle such risks. In addition, it focuses on the capacities which are necessary for states in less developed or developed countries to the adaption to and for the management or prevention of these risks. In this context, global risks such as pandemics, climate change, economic recessions, hunger, or the proliferation of weapons for mass destruction are relevant empirical topics of the seminar.
