Title: MK057 - Molecular Phytopathology
Code: 0904
Lecturer:

Dr. Jens Steinbrenner

Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Kogel

Type of course: Lecture and Seminar
Description: In the lecture on molecular phytopathology we will discuss molecular aspects of the plant's immune response to pathogens from different kingdoms of life.
We will start by talking about infection cycles and lifestyles of various devastating plant and model pathogens and their typical disease symptoms. We will then focus on constitutive defence layers such as the cuticula and the cell wall. Later in the course, induced defence mechanisms will be presented and discussed.
At the end of the lecture series, the students will present research papers on recent findings in the field of molecular phytopathology. This will help to deepen and broaden their knowledge and train their presentation skills.
