Preliminary Project

In fall 2023, JLU Giessen successfully completed a preliminary project for the web relaunch. A broad-based project team from all areas of the university laid the foundations for the current web relaunch project.

Procedure

The executive board commissioned the preliminary project for the web relaunch of the JLU website, and it was successfully completed in November 2023. In four one-day workshops, a common understanding, the framework conditions, and a process model for a website relaunch were developed and the requirements were defined.

Participants

The working group consisted of representatives from the following departments:

  • IT Service Center (HRZ)
  • President's Office (PB3 Communication)
  • Staff Division for Planning (Strategy)
  • Staff Division for Academic Infrastructure (StW)
  • Staff Division for Research (StF)
  • Staff Division for Teaching (StL)
  • Digital Transformation Office (BfD)
  • University Library (UB)
  • Staff Council
  • Faculty of Business (FB02)
  • Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences (FB03)
  • Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science (FB06)
  • Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FB10)
  • Vice President of Academic Infrastructure (VPW)
  • Chief Information Officer (CIO)

An external agency that had already supported several larger universities with relaunch projects moderated the workshops.

Results

The goals of the relaunch emphasize a modern, user-friendly, and sustainable website that is highly up to date as JLU's digital business card. Priority focus topics are in particular the short-term optimization necessary for the Excellence Strategy and student recruitment. The project (management) structures defined for this purpose are based on agile project management principles and are intended to ensure high implementation speed, flexibility, and adaptability while maintaining high production quality.
