Requirements

Requirements Applied Theatre Studies (B.A.)

A valid university entrance qualification (German: HZB) is required for admission to the program.

  • From Germany: General university entrance qualification (= Abitur or equivalent), vocational university entrance qualification, master craftsman’s certificate, university entrance qualification for professionally qualified individuals.
  • From abroad: You can find out whether the university entrance qualification from your home country qualifies you for direct admission to a degree program in Germany on the information portal for the recognition of foreign educational qualifications (anabin).

Proof of an internship (pre-internship) is not required for admission.

Applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification should also note the required proof of German language proficiency.

Aptitude test

You must pass an aptitude test if you wish to enrol on the Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Theatre Studies. This must be taken before and in addition to the formal application for the degree programme.

Language requirements

Admission to the Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Theatre Studies requires proof of language proficiency in English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, in particular through

  1. school certificate (proof of English as a (foreign) language for at least 6 years of learning up to the degree entitling the applicant to university admission);
  2. language test IELTS: min. Grade 5.5;
  3. language test TOEFL (iBT, 0-120 points): min. 72 points;
  4. TOEFL language test (ITP Level 1, 310-677 points): min. 543 points;
  5. language test TOEFL (pBT, 310-677 points): min. 543 points;
  6. language test PTE Academic (10-90 points): min. 59 points;
  7. language test TOEIC (10-990 points): min. 785 points;
  8. telc language test: B2 certificate;
  9. language test UNIcert II certificate;

If the proof according to sentence 1 is not provided at the time of enrolment, enrolment will take place in accordance with Section 60 (4) sentence 2 of the Hessian Higher Education Act of 14 December 2021 (HessHG) subject to proof being provided by the end of the 2nd semester. If the required language skills are not proven before the end of the 2nd subject-related semester, enrolment for the Bachelor's degree programme ATW expires at the end of the 2nd subject-related semester.

The Examination Board decides on the recognition of foreign language requirements for applicants who have a higher education entrance qualification obtained abroad or a Bachelor's or equivalent degree.
