Ethology

The central focus in ethological studies is the behavior of animals or humans. One of the main questions being asked is “Why does it do it?”. The study of behavior is an old area of research. It probably goes as far back as the time when humans needed to predict where their prey might be found. Modern ethological studies focus on the role of a behavior in the context of the survival of individuals. Understanding the reason behind a behavior is relevant for e.g. nature conservation issues or as a practical example effective pest control.
