PhD Project

The research analyzes how the Second World War and its actors have been remembered in the post-Yugoslav space with a particular focus on contemporary Serbia. The project centres on the concept of collective memory as proposed by Wulf Kansteiner (2002), which is a result of the interaction among intellectual and cultural traditions which serve as frames for the representations of the past, memory makers, and memory consumers. In this sense, the research examines the correlation between the general pluralization and national fragmentation of memory in the post-Yugoslav space, state-sanctioned memory politics on the Second World War and its reception within the contemporary Serbian society.
