Modes of Perception in the Late Classical and Early Hellenistic Periods

In contrast to the historical and historiographical rupture marked by the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC, changes in artistic and literary perception cannot be defined with the same precision.

This project investigates the gradual transition from the Late Classical to the Early Hellenistic period, with particular attention to the underlying modes of perception that shaped these developments. Adopting a cross-media approach informed by cultural studies, the research focuses especially on phenomena that may be understood as transmedial strategies of representation. These are interpreted as elements of specific perceptual and cultural dispositions that interact dynamically with one another.
