Ombudspersons

The university ombudsperson acts as an independent point of contact for members of the university who seek support or advice in the event of conflicts, ethical issues or academic concerns. They play an important role in conflict resolution and contribute to maintaining integrity, fairness and transparency in the university environment.

Prof. Dr. Gerd Hamscher has been JLU's ombudsperson since 2020.

According to section 8 of the "Statutes of Justus Liebig University of Safeguarding Good Academic Practice", the ombudsperson has the following tasks, among others:

  • Advising members and affiliates of Justus Liebig University Giessen who wish to inform them of academic misconduct;
  • Taking up relevant information and attempting to clarify it;
  • Checking whether the allegations are plausible and whether it is possible to dispel them (preliminary investigation);
  • Supporting affected and informing persons after the conclusion of a formal investigation procedure;
  • Documentation of the proceedings, taking into account the protection of the privacy of informants and affected persons.
