The large service facilities such as the university computer centre and the university library as well as scientific workshops, collections, greenhouses and animal husbandry, but also university sport are all part of his area of responsibility.

Prof. Dr. Karsten Krüger, born in 1977, comes from Dorsten in the district of Recklinghausen. He studied biology and sports science at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster before completing his doctorate at JLU and habilitating in 2015. In 2017, he was appointed Professor of Sport and Health at Leibniz Universität Hannover. In Hanover, he was Managing Director of the Institute of Sports Science and Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Humanities before returning to Giessen in October 2019. There he holds the professorship for Performance Physiology and Sports Therapy at JLU.

Prof. Krüger's research focuses on molecular and cellular adaptation processes through physical activity and sports training. His projects address the therapeutic effects of sport in close connection with clinical issues, in which he cooperates with various working groups at the University Hospital Giessen and Marburg. One of his main topics is the regulation of systemic inflammatory processes through activity. Prof. Krüger also conducts research into physiological factors influencing performance development in elite sport, where he works with numerous top athletes from the German national squads as well as with athletes from the region.

He is a member of the Scientific Council of the German Society for Sports Medicine and Prevention, on the board of the International Society of Exercise and Immunology (ISEI) and editor of the scientific journal Exercise Immunology Review.
