Jan studied chemistry in Munich (LMU) and Helsinki (HY). After receiving his master's degree in 2012, he joined the group of Prof. M. Kalesse at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI, Braunschweig) and the Leibniz-University Hannover to pursue a PhD in the total synthesis of natural products. He defended his dissertation, Studies Towards the Total Synthesis of Chondrochloren, in 2017 when he moved to Japan to join the group of Prof. M. Nakamura to work on iron-catalysed asymmetric carbometalation reactions. After having moved to the group of Prof. H. Kaji to work on novel OLED materials in 2019, he has been working on functionalised CPP syntheses in the Wegner group since 2021.
