Kursbeschreibung
The course will cover a wide range of topics from formal code of conduct to company structures and the preparation of various types of documents that are essential for your work in companies. Especially – but not exclusively – for those who are planning to work in industry after finishing their PhD, this course does not only provide useful information, but combines it with practical exercises as well as the opportunity for individual training and assistance with your own current papers and projects.
Aims: The series is designed to support you in the process of becoming familiar with the business side of academic activities, and to prepare for professional business communications in academia and in the company world. After the sessions, participants should be able to handle business situations confidently in writing, on the telephone, or in person. Participants will also be able to extend their knowledge and understanding of vocabulary specific to business situations.

The general structure of each session will be as follows:
- Introduction to and discussion of business theme(s) (about 60 min.)
- Language exercises, focusing on the grammar, vocabulary and style related to the business topic(s) of the day (about 60 min.)
- Assisted writing (i.e. proposals, letters of inquiry, requests for information, etc.) (the remaining time, about 60 min.)
Two short breaks will be included in each session.

Der Trainer
Laurence Henry attended and taught at universities in Virginia and Texas, and completed a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, and Master’s degrees in Human Nutrition and Health Education. Since 2008, he has been teaching English at the University of Giessen and the University of Marburg, as well as in private universities and companies. He is also a speaking examiner and examination invigilator for Cambridge English and the British Council (IELTS).
