Contents:
This basic course offers a structured introduction to Python, focusing on the first essential steps for researchers who want to integrate programming in Python into their daily work. Over four morning sessions, participants will develop practical skills to handle data, automate workflows, and generate meaningful visualizations. No prior programming experience is required.
Aims:
- Getting started with Python: basic syntax, variables, and data types
- Writing simple programs and understanding core concepts (loops, functions)
- Reading and processing text files (.txt)
- Working with multiple files efficiently
- Organizing and cleaning data for analysis
- Creating basic visualizations with plots and graphs
- Introduction to automating repetitive tasks with simple scripts
- Applying Python tools to participants’ own research questions
Optional extensions:
- Animated plots for advanced visualization
The course empasizes practical use cases, enabling participants to directly apply Python tools to their research. By the end of the workshop, attendees will be equipped with the foundational skills needed to analyze, visualize, and manage data more efficiently.
