(registration needed until April 11, via e-mail to )

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Probably everyone has ever heard heavy metal music, and probably everyone would describe it as a pure manifestation of power, aggression and protest. Nowadays heavy metal took over the globe, and people who love it, hate it or fear it could be found everywhere.

But what is heavy metal really about? In academy heavy metal studies were distinguished into a separate field of multidimensional researches, that included cultural studies, cultural sociology, physiology, and even economics and law. Scholars attempt to reveal the real essence of heavy metal, discovering its history, understanding controversies and making the publicity realize what heavy metal subculture actually is.

In the workshop “Heavy music in our life and contemporary heavy metal studies” students will be introduced to the history of heavy metal, its subgenres, ideology, and problematic aspects. Musicians and fans are specially welcome to participate, as eventually we all try to find out, what is the role of heavy metal in our life today?
