Annual Materials Researchers Day

The working group participated in the Materials Researchers Day again this year. We greatly enjoyed the exchange with our colleagues from Marburg and Giessen. Dirk also presented his research in a poster.

 

FEMS EuroMat 2025, Granada 14.09.-18.09.2025
Jonas and Manuel traveled to Granada this year to attend the 18th European Congress and Exhibition on Advanced Materials and Processes (EuroMat). Manuel presented a poster there, and Jonas presented his findings in a lecture entitled "High-Entropy Zirconates as future Thermal Barrier Coatings: Resistance to Corrosion by Volcanic Ashes and Sands".

 

ECerS XIX 2025, Dresden 31.08.-04.09.2025
Giulia, Alina, and Benjamin traveled to Dresden with Prof. Lepple to attend the 19th Conference of the European Ceramic Society 2025 (ECerS XIX 2025). There, they exchanged ideas with international researchers about ceramics. Giulia presented her findings in a talk entitled "Thermophysico-chemical properties of high-entropy oxides as novel functional materials for thermal barrier coating applications" Alina presented hers in a talk entitled "Promising ZrO2-HfO2-Y2O3-Ta2O5 system for novel high-performance materials for thermal barrier coating applications", and Benjamin presented his in a lecture entitled "Synthesis and electrochemical characterization of new multicomponent Li-garnets".

 

4th JTACC, Budapest 24.06.-27.06.2025
At this year's fourth “Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry Conference” (JTACC), Alexander presented his research on solid-state batteries in the lecture “Thermal Stability, Thermochemical and Thermophysical Properties of Lithium Argyrodite Solid Electrolytes”.



T/EBC Conference '25,
Irsee
22.06.-27.06.2025

Prof. Lepple was invited to give a presentation at the conference “Thermal and Environmental Barrier Coatings VII” (T/EBC conference) in Irsee. She presented the group's research in a presentation entitled “Influence of cationic parameters on phase formation and properties of high entropy zirconates”.

Alina, Giulia, Jonas and Manuel also took part in the conference and presented their results in poster presentations. We were happy to see familiar faces again and to exchange ideas with the leading researchers in the field.

Giulia received the prize for the most questions asked among the doctoral students. Congratulations to her!

 

26. Kalorimetrietage 2025, Leipzig 11.06.-13.06.2025

Prof. Lepple, as well as Dirk and Alexander, took part in the 26th Calorimetry Days in Leipzig. Prof. Lepple was invited to present a talk titled "Probing the Thermal Secrets of Ceramics Used for Energy Conversion and Storage."

Alexander presented a talk titled "Thermal Properties of LPSCl Solid Electrolytes." Dirk presented his research in a poster titled "Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis of Solid-State Batteries" and won the poster prize for best poster. Congratulations!



2025 E-MRS Spring Meeting, Strasbourg 26.05.-30.05.2025
Benjamin and Alexander presented their research at the E-MRS meeting in Strasbourg. Benjamin presented his results in a paper entitled “Multicomponent Li-Garnets as Electrolytes in Solid-State Batteries: Synthesis and Characterization”. Alexander presented the paper “Thermal Properties and Stability of LPSCl Solid Electrolytes”.



2025 MRS Spring Meeting, Seattle 07.04.-11.04.2025
  At this year's MRS Spring Meeting in Seattle, Prof. Lepple was invited to give a lecture entitled “High-Entropy Oxides for Energy Conversion and Storage”. She also discussed the various research areas with other international researchers.

As the opening event of the DGM Materials Week in Frankfurt, the latest research programs of the BMBF were presented as part of the Materials Research Conference (MatFo). Various presentations from research, industry and politics highlighted the current materials science issues.



27th Spring Symposium, Münster 11.03.-15.03.2024

At this year's spring symposium in Münster, Manuel Schenker once again presented his research in a poster presentation and took the opportunity to exchange ideas with other young people from the field of chemistry.

Once again this year, some members of our working group attended the MSIT meeting to take advantage of the Winter Schools and workshops.
We were particularly pleased to see familiar faces from previous years and from other conferences.



GEFTA Konferenz 2024, Gießen 25.09.-27.09.2024
This year's anniversary conference to mark the 50th anniversary of the Gesellschaft für Thermische Analyse e.V. (GEFTA) took place in Giessen. The theme of the conference was “Sustainability and materials science”. Dr. Alexander Sedykh presented his research work in a lecture. We are particularly pleased that Prof. Maren Lepple was awarded the NETZSCH-GEFTA prize!



MSE 2024, Darmstadt 24.09.-26.09.2024
In September, we took part in the International Materials Science and Engineering Congress - MSE 2024 in Darmstadt. We had the pleasure of presenting our research in five talks. We used the time to exchange ideas with other researchers and develop new ideas.



CMCEE14, Budapest 18.08.-22.08.2024
Prof. Maren Lepple has been invited to give a lecture at the 14th International Conference on Ceramic Materials and Components for Energy and Environmental Systems (CMCEE14). In the session Advanced Ceramic Coatings for Power Systems she gave the lecture "High entropy zirconates for TBC applications - influence of cationic parameters on phase formation and properties".



Circular Econimy Summer School 2024, Gießen 02.09.-05.09.2024
As part of the CLOCKS project (CLOsing the loop: building Circular sKillS on the entire value chain), a summer school on the topic of “Circularity and sustainability by design” was held in Giessen this year. Problems and possible solutions for a more sustainable future were presented in various lectures.

 

FEMS Junior EUROMAT 2024, Manchester 15.07.-18.07.2024
In July, Giulia Bianchi and Benjamin Zimmermann took part in the FEMS Junior EUROMAT 2024 in Manchester and each presented their research work in a lecture. Giulia's talk on high-entropy oxides was entitled "New High-Entropy Oxides as Potential Thermal Barrier Coatings: Study on Different Compositions and Synthetic Approaches". Benjamin gave a talk on his battery research entitled "New Multicomponent Li-Garnets as Solid Electrolyte Material for Li-Ion Batteries".

This year, the working group once again took part in the Annual Materials Research Day. We were delighted to exchange ideas with our colleagues from Marburg and Giessen and presented our research in two posters.

In June, Jonas Pflug took part in the High Temperature Corrosion and Protection of Materials (HTCPM) symposium in France, where he presented his research findings on the corrosion of thermal barrier coatings in the form of a poster entitled "Investigation of Multicomponent Equimolar Rare-Earth Zirconates". He also took the opportunity to exchange ideas with other researchers about their research work on corrosion.



Metal and Alloys UBT Seminar

Giulia Bianchi had the opportunity to familiarize herself with the working methods of the partnership during a seminar held by her cooperation partner from Bayreuth. She presented the results of her research in a talk entitled "Influence of cationic parameters and synthetic route on phase formation and thermophysical properties of multicomponent equimolar oxides".



51st CALPHAD, Mannheim 26.05.-31.05.2024
During the 51st International Conference on Computer Coupling of Phase Diagrams and Thermochemistry (CALPHAD) in Mannheim, Prof. Maren Lepple and Alina Habermann were able to gain insights into the current development steps of various phase diagrams and their calculations. Alina Habermann also presented her research in a poster presentation for the international participants.



26. Spring Symposium, Ulm 12.03.-16.03.2024

At this year's spring symposium in Ulm, Manuel Schenker presented his research in a poster presentation and took the opportunity to exchange ideas with other young chemists from around the world.



BMBF NanoMatFutur Networking Event, Berlin 14.02.-15.02.2024

In recent years, it has not been possible to organise a network meeting for the group leaders of the BMBF NanoMatFutur and BattFutur junior research groups due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year the time had finally come and we were able to present our projects to each other, exchange ideas and network and get to know the PtJ and VDI staff in person. The event took place at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) not far from the Chancellery in Berlin.

48th International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC2024)

Maren was able to present the results of the LeppleLab to the other conference participants in two invited talks. The conference also offered the opportunity to exchange ideas with other scientists and representatives from industry, to catch up with friends and acquaintances and to make new contacts.

We took part in the MSIT meeting at Ringberg Castle again this year. We were delighted to see familiar faces again and exchange scientific expertise.



Annual Materials Researchers Day

The Lepple group is delighted to have taken part in the Materials Researchers Day 2023 and to have exchanged ideas with other researchers from the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen, Philipps University Marburg and Justus Liebig University Giessen. Prof. Maren Lepple presented her research topics to her colleagues in a lecture and detailed questions could then be discussed with the entire working group in a poster session.



25. Spring Symposium, Giessen 21.03.-24.03.2023
  At the 25th Spring Symposium in Giessen, we took the opportunity to participate in exciting workshops, lectures and program items on our campus. We were also able to present our own research in the poster sessions.

Delicious food, nice people, a great view and lots of science! It was a pleasure to take part (again) in the MSIT meeting at Ringberg Castle on Lake Tegernsee!
