Current topics for Mastertheses
Title: Market Integration & the Child‑Nutrition Trade‑off in African Smallholder Agriculture
Goal: Examine how market access and commercialization influence child nutrition in smallholder households across Africa, accounting for possible trade‑offs such as child labour, caregiving time, and food allocation.
Data & Methods
- Use existing LSMS‑ISA/GHS surveys (multi‑country SSA)
- Modules: agriculture, market participation, income/consumption, child nutrition/health, schooling/labour, demographics, assets
- Quantitative econometrics (no fieldwork)
Candidate Tasks
- Clean, harmonise, and manage multi‑country data
- Build market‑integration and commercialization indicators
- Analyse child nutrition and related welfare outcomes (descriptive analysis only)
Desired Profile
- Strong quantitative & statistical skills (R, Excel)
- Experience with LSMS‑ISA, GHS, DHS or similar surveys an asset
- Background in agri‑economics, development economics, or nutrition
- Focus on child nutrition, rural livelihoods, agri‑policy in SSA
- Independent work plus teamwork
