Biodiversity

Background

Tree rows of AFS may lead to:

  • Heterogeneity and environmental gradients in nutrients and humidity
  • Habitats and unsuitable patches for organisms
  • Influence of biotic interactions, e.g. plant-fungal symbiosis, rhizosphere interactions, predator-prey encounters, pollination
  • Changes in the spatial distribution of organisms in the landscape due to different dispersal abilities in the environment

Objectives

  • Understanding biodiversity in agroforestry systems
  • evaluate biodiversity gradients from tree rows into adjacent crop fields
    • in the spatial complexity of ecological communities
    • in biodiversity-associated NCP indicators
