Background

  • Tree rows change the water balance of cropping systems by their transpiration, effects on microclimate and soil structure
  • Trees affect nutrient cycling of agroforestry system

Investigation of

  • Soil moisture dynamics in space and time
  • Water fluxes between crops and trees
  • Gradients of nutrient mobility (incl. validation of a low-cost assessment method for plant nutrient mobility)
  • Nitrogen uptake of crops and trees
