Prof. Dr. Anne-Christin Hauschild

Head of Institute

Anne-Christin Hauschild has been Professor of Predictive Deep Learning for Medicine and Healthcare and Head of the Institute for Predictive Deep Learning for Medicine and Healthcare at Justus-Liebig-University Giessen since 2025. Her research focuses on federated and transfer learning to address challenges posed by heterogeneous and sparse medical data—particularly in the fields of pneumology, oncology, cardiology, and mental health. She develops methods for multimodal data modelling that integrate clinical, bio signal, molecular (omics), and health-related data, as well as explainable AI with human-in-the-loop approaches to identify clinically relevant and potentially causal factors for disease prediction and hypothesis generation.

After completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Bioinformatics at Saarland University (2008, 2011), she earned her PhD in 2016 from the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in Saarbrücken, supervised by Prof. Jan Baumbach and Prof. Volkhard Helms, with a thesis on *Computational Methods for Breath Metabolomics in Clinical Diagnostics*. Subsequently, she conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Toronto (Krembil Research Institute and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre) under the supervision of Prof. Igor Jurisica, focusing on data science approaches for chronic diseases. Her research stays also included the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Toronto), the Ontario Cancer Research Institute, and the University of Southern Denmark.
