Project B03: "Signal-mediated chromatin changes in right heart failure"

Short summary:

In this project, pulmonary artery banding (PAB) in weanling rats will be used to study the transition from compensated right heart hypertrophy to right heart failure. Michael Kracht together with Prof. Susanne Rohrbach (physiology) will systematically characterize the regulatory non-coding genome, chromatin factors, metabolic effects and their signal-mediated changes as major determinants of tissue-specific but also dynamic gene transcription. Ultimately, these results will not only annotate the rat right heart transcriptome in relation to the regulatory genome but will also reveal how (re)organization of the enhancer landscape contributes to right heart pathology and if epigenetic mechanisms provide targets for intervention.
